All year long everyone is working towards their summer body, but once summer hits you never hear anyone talking about maintaining their summer body. This is even more true for busy parents in Charlotte.
Summer can be a time to have fun and relax with family and friends but that doesn’t mean it is time for your fitness regimen to take a break as well. I always share a few fitness tips with my clients and I wanted to share those with you too.
A few great ways to stay healthy and active with kids during the summer time are:
- Hydrate: This may seem like the simplest one, but it is often the most neglected. Summer time is often filled with temptations such as sugary sodas and fruity alcoholic beverages. Dehydration combined with the extreme temperature of summer can be a toxic combination so make sure that you are drinking at least 64 oz. of water a day and more if you will be in the sun for a long time.
- Swim: Summer is a great time to get a good swim in. The cool water will allow you to catch a break from the summer heat and swimming is great exercise! One hour of swimming can burn around 400 calories and it’s an activity that kids love!
- Timing is Key: The sun hits us most directly from the hours of 12-3pm. Try to avoid exercising outside during this time. If those are the only times available to workout, find a great gym in Charlotte. (wink wink)
- Healthy Snacks: Fruit pops can be healthy, delicious and satisfying. By making your own you can insure that you are getting a healthy dose of fruits and you can enjoy a cold treat at the same time. Here are some different recipes to try!
